ANCB originated in 1989 under the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA), which has supported the certification of addiction nurses. However, due to accreditation standards that require a certifying organization to be autonomous from the member organization, ANCB became independent in 2014. ANCB continues to support IntNSA’s mission.
